La Vie En Rose

How lucky was I to be included in the first ever season of Project Run and Play held in Australia? While I didn’t make it through to the Botanical week, I still completed my vision for this week’s challenge.

La vie en rose, which literally translated reads “Life in pink” is perfect for my daughter who was born loving the colour pink. And while I’ve had this dress in my head for a very long time, it took me a little while to settle on what else to make to go with it. When I stumbled upon this gorgeous floral cotton/linen blend at Spotlight, I knew I had my outfit sorted.

I used the Chloe Cardigan pattern as the base for the jacket. I sized up one size in the bodice and extended the front and back bodice straight down to finish at my desired length. For the sleeves, I shortened them to finish just above the elbow, then added a double ruffle cuff. I toyed with the idea of adding a ruffle around the bottom, but decided against that for this look. I will be trying that next though!

For the dress, I mashed two patterns together. The bodice is the Darcy Dress pattern in a white cotton lycra and the skirt is the Lala Skirt pattern. The skirt is made from poly tulle and lined with bemsilk lining which I purposefully used so that the skirt wasn’t too heavy to pull the bodice down. I’ve wanted to make a dress version of the Lala skirt since forever and am so happy with how it has come together. Missy was extremely happy with the result too so I can see more of these being made.

I made the flowers for the dress and layered them in alternating pinks, sewing them to the dress with a feature bead in a cascading fashion down the bodice into the skirt.

Gosh Nikki, this outfit is just adorable. I love the Lala Dress idea… hopefully one day you will create it for us. Gorgeous Jacket too. I can see this one in high rotation for Easter
